Title: the goods
Medium: photograph printed on paper 9*11inch*9
With the still image of a posed performance, this is a work revealing female status in China,
female struggle between tradition and modernization,
between being humanized and materialized,
within men and women.
And also the media effect towards our value.
It is a piece crying for social justice, promoting actions against human trafficking, rape and DV.
Motif:
A movie made in 2009 has been criticized by a popular blogger late July 2015. People are starting to focus on it through internet. English title:" a story of an abducted woman"; Chinese title means "a woman married to the mountains", the story supposed to base on a true story, but being changed to suit the "harmony" of which Chinese government defines the society. It beautified the seriousness of human trafficking, rape and DV, and the ignorance of the government regarding all these crimes.
The original of the character is a woman, being abducted, gang-raped, and sold to a rural village to "marry". She is tortured and raped and suffering from DV. She tried to escape, but the whole village, including the local government is putting surveillance on her, the punishment becomes worse and worse. She tried to kill herself, but being saved every time.
After a year of being obedient, she is allowed to visit her own home in accompany of her "husband". Her family is also living in a village, her parents are sad, but persuading her go back with her husband for a woman being married once cannot find a decent husband again.
This woman has nowhere to go but to give in to her fate. She went back “home” with her “husband”. After 20 years, she gave birth twice.
The village of her husband's is lack of teachers, for no one from the outside can bear the awful environment in the rural village. She became a sub-teacher because she has been educated until 9th grade, which is the highest education history among the whole village. She is barely paid from teaching job, also doing all the farmland labor for her family, but now has some hope in life.
This story was dog out by a photographer by accident. Then some reporters exposed this woman's life story. The reporters faced a lot of difficulties in their early interviews, for the local government didn't want the crimes being dug out; there are more than 30 women in the village are abducted and sold to the village, but until now, nothing has been done.
After the story was out, the government made her a role model, in order to encourage every young people having a sacrifice spirit as she does, sacrifice themselves for greater good. So they made a politically right movie.

- The villagers discriminate the woman even more after the story is out. She becomes a humiliation of the village.
- Some people online blame the woman for she hasn't been able to escape; blaming her lack of courage.
- The woman can barely coming out of her home after the exposure of her story for suffering all the discrimination and blames.
